Aug 4th 1914 War declared

Oct 24th 1914 Got my commission as 2nd Lieut.

Nov 4th Proceeded to Codford Camp and joined the 8th D.C.L.I. (Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry) and on the same day returned to my home to get uniform -- found the colonel and officers very nice --

Nov 14th Battalion moved to Bath & I also reported for duty -- we remained in Bath until April 26th 1915 & the inhabitants treated us both officers & men in a most generous manner making the Officers also hon. members of the Bath & County Club. during this period I had several enjoyable trips to Corsham visiting the Bryants etc. also one trip of five days to London.

April 26th 1915 - The whole battalion is marched to Sutton Veney Wilts & were billeted in quite nice huts
