WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE Somewhere in France Aug 28/16 Friend Fred I take the opportunity of writing you a few lines to let you know that I am still on top & in good health and getting along fine I am writing this in an old German dugout that we are living in just now there are sixteen of us in it with and although we have to keep a light burning & have only about 2 1/2 feet to a man we get along amazingly well and scarcely ever have a falling out among our selves which goes to show that we all pull together pretty good.
