He is certainly one of the Great Men which this war had brought forward & is above all a man of & a friend to the ordinary run of people. He will be a loss to us as well as France if he goes under or looses even some of his wonderful energy & brainpower. Strange that those leaders who are assiniated in this way are usually those leaders who the world is best agreed on as to their worth. I belive perhaps that one of the good results of this war will be that it will be less popular in the U.S. to decry everything British than it was befor so many yanks came over & saw what we could & were doing.
