2/ J. McK was B.P nearly all the time he was in France. I was only out of the shell [Gone} for a month last spring & got so tired of being a B.P. that I tried hard 3 times to get into the infantry but could not make it. & now I am fighting hard( & expect to win) to be sent back to France. All my mates from France say stay here or go home you have done enough & being old can go back. I know I can go back but this war is not yet done & I want to be in France till it is well won. I dont want for a minute to pose as a hero but a lot of men are weakening & I am not a bit fed up. It is not the English or Scotch that are getting cold feet & it is because I want you to give our race credit that I tell you these things. & there is a strang fatality about the lot of men who go back after being wounded & then get thier Napoo I dont expect a Napoo I belive I shall come back alive but have a constant thought of a lost leg.
