first day 31/7/17 & if it had not rained that evening at 5 pm the guns would have been up that night & another big pounding & push have been given to Fritz. But it was hard luck & the army had been hanging on since & Fritz has been expending his forts & concrete machine gun places further back & he is useing without doubt a great deal more artillery than at any other time in the war. But we shall get him yet & if the people stay stiff & true to themselfs & country we shall get him good & hard & wind him up tight & I do certainly hope to be there at the finish There is a lady Representing the Can. Red x comes to see me every week & gives me some cigs & months old papers but we like to see them if only to look them over & find nothing in them of interest. i have not heard of our Cariboo boys for some time though I wrote to two just before I got hit. But the Cams have had some scrapping at Lens so I fear we must expect some more casuality among them. I send my best respects to Mrs Tregillus & please remember to all friends who are interested in us Kinest regards & best wishes to yourself I am yous very Truly Ernest Seeley
