Dear Fred

I have put my home address though I am not there. But it is uncertain where I shall be sent to. I am at present in a Hospital in a small town in Cheshire. I was in Manchester for a while after coming over. I got hit on 17/8/17 at 4 in the morning H.E. wound in the back (slight) & a contussion on the back (Dam severe) a 5'9 naval shell just missed my head & burried itself too deep in the soft ground to do me any harm though only 12 feet away but the force of the bursting shoke me up a lot & just then another burst about 25 yards behind me (I was coming out at the time) & a bit of shell & a lump of something seperate hit me in the lower back. The shell splinter did not hurt much like a hot kniting needle going in, but the other thing, a lump of clay or perhaps a nose cap felt just like a heavy blow with a 8 lb hammer, Strange to say I
