We played mens part while at the Somme & did some very useful work among other things diging a ditch or trench out in advance of the front line for the infantry to advance out through for some certain purposes, which would most likely be censored out if I wrote it. another night we deepened a hasty trench made by the infantry after an attack. Shells of all sorts were throw at us , some times with very little results. Shell five is considered the hardest to stand for as you cant return it. our air men continue to boss the air 7 by that save us to a wonderful extent also on the other hand enabling our Guns to give Fritz ___& our higher officers to plan well, We owe a very great deal to our air service & dont forget we had our surpremecy before P.
