Dear Fred
I know it is a very long time since I wrote & it makes it worse because I do appreciate your letters so much.
I was waiting to write you a long letter but have not been able to do that, so will send a short letter now. We have left the Somme (we must not say when we are at a place but can tell when we have left it) & are now on a very quiet front hardly any war at all & less for us as we have never been closer that ½ mile from the front line
As a rule the worst place is from that distance to 2 miles behind the front line but here so little is doing that that little is all used on the Front. I am much pleased to hear of the
