well versed in Military ways & tricks, though he has never see active service. We are not leaning much now we may be getting a little smarter at forming fours & marching but we ( that is the Cariboo bunch) cant seem to fall in quickly or go to a bit of fatigue without a lot of grousing & wanting to do it differently to the ordered military way. G. Turner & Kit Carson got 3 days C.B. ( confined to Barrachs) for staying out one night with out a pass. That was hardly fair & it was the first time it had happened. & the first time a man has a charge laid against him he is as a rule only admonished, thus his sheet is kept clean. however both of them had been called to the orderly room (which is our court room) & talked to before tough not charged in due form. also J. Westover got (I think) two days for over staying by 1 day a leave of 4 days. But these things are not for public though of course it will reach up there, but not through me to the outsider. W.H> Boyd is in the isolation hospital with the same complaint as our friend W. Fletcher. some things bought cheap cost like the duce in the end. I must be a [uretch] because I am not so much put out about the five at Quesnell. But Kepner & Fraser have seemed to me to be so selfish & greedy that I find it hard to be put out. Glad to hear that Fred Harper did not have much loss. We understand here that Gardner saved every thing but the building though I doubt it. I lost a suit of clothes in Gardeners that i paid Harper 40$ for but never wore but I felt like a guy when I put them on So is is no loss. We have a great Mystery here. Mike Dwyer says he met & talked with Mike Callahan M.D. here in Victoria. Miss G. Callahan says dad is not & has not been here. I suspect Mike D. may have met Bailey (Hops man) & talked Barkerville to him
