a Lieut to ask a Cpl to stay. But Cook said the O.C. thought I was O.K. & so did Capt Nicholson & so they sent Cook who knew Cariboo men to me. i still insisted I wanted to go. But Cook said I must take one more night to think it over & If I still wanted to transfer to go to Capt Nicholson in the morning. I did that & Capt Nicholson at me again for a long time so finally I had to tell him I did not get the backing I should have from Platoon Sergent & had to tell him that Scobie had refused duty to me & the Sergent had backed him up. Capt then pointed out that I should be doing a great injury to him & the Batt if I left under those circumstances as it would spread through the Batt to refuse proper obedience to an N.C.O. I told him Scobie was very careful to do it only in the company of his own click. The Capt talked so hard & earnestly to me that I at last agreed to stay. He said Cook is to be second in command of No 3 & he knows you are O.K. & I will not hesitate to put the whole platoon in the Guard house

Nicholson said they are good men but only you & one or two others seem to be trying to become Soldiers & they are no good to us till they do & we will either make them or break them I may have made a mistake & suspect I shall be sory I stayed but Capt Nicholson has always been very good to me & it hurt them so much.
