But the O.C. is an old soldier & a very shrewd man & saw through it at once & did not even call Scobie & his gang for which I was sorry as the Co S.M. who beleved me in the wrong (or pretended to) had promised me to have S & gang brought in one at a time & I think the O.C. would have caught them in there lies & if he had it would have gone hard with them. The Co S.M .gave the platoon to understand after the trial was over that he knew there had been under hand talk & it was given a strip on merit only & would be backed up always & if they thought they had a grevience to go to him. I rather fear the gang may get me yet, but will not quit the platoon though I have been advised to do by two other sergents. Donley of Quesnell is pretty clever & though he keeps in the background is an active member of our gang & he has the wil I guess to figure out a plan to put
