our platoon just disgraced itself by its rotten drilling & the Co Segt. Magor gave them a great bauling our. I was not out as I had a lame foot but Both our sergents spoke to me of it & it gave me the chance to tell them what I thought was the cause of our slackness Our sergent is a gentleman & a good soldier but not quite strict enough & not very good at picking out the right man to put the blame on for slackness. We went out the other day to some near by woods & cut a lot of small trees ( 4 in about) & in any length & packed them back to where we had dug some trenches these poles are to be used for barbed wire entanglements & soon we are to start at maning the trenches at night My own idea is that we want teaching how to do smartly & properly our platoon & Co drill before we learn other things & above all we must learn unquestioning obedience to all orders which only C.F. Boyd W. Fletcher G. Turner & Myself have learned. Arhcie & Walter Boyd both seem slow
