corporal as soon as I knew the drill. I did not get the stripe to day but think it was because this funeral party upset things. I have no doubt I shall get it to morrow & if I do not have any trouble with the boys shall not be long in getting my full corporal. a lance corporalship is a hard job as you are expected to control men without any real power. unless I butt in to envy I have no fear of trouble.

I am writing this in a noisy room with a piano going & 50 or 60 men talking & am also writing against time as I must go to a lecture in 30 min. lecture is by the O. C. for future n.c.'s

We are dryly housed & fairly well fed in a very rough way, the food is well cooked but the maner of serving is very rough the food is not any too liberal still it seems enough. there is always lots of bread + most all ways more butter than we want. We are not worked hard but still we are kept pretty busy from 6:30 am
