Hastings, where, in the company of the rest of the band, the month of June was spent, and although we went for work and not pleasure yet the opportunity of employing our leisure moments along the shore and beach of a famous resort as amongst the interesting, picturesque and historical scenes that mark the city But its surroundings was not one to be neglected, and a most enjoyable time was spent in spite of heavier duties than are occasioned by the usual camp routine and one and all regretted the moment that called for our return.

On arrival at Seaford we discovered that we were billed for the 16th Reserve instead of the 1st as heretofore, and are now getting settled down in our new quarters, though rumor has it that the sitting will not be for long as we are soon to cross to France to the 1st Division. Rumor frequently is fickle and uncertain, while more especially do we find it so in things military yet in the present case I have every reason to believe it speaks true, and I look for the date of our crossing the Chanel to be not far distant.

I have not felt satisfied here, and I can't say that I am sorry to be on the move. I have wished to hold back for reasons which you know, but still even so, I feel, and know that it is better to take a man's part, and trust the issue to Higher Hands
