number of old friends from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and saw a fellow on the platform at Folkestone that I went to school with. There is another fellow from my home town here in camp, but he happens to be a staff-officer so I have got to wait a favorable opportunity.

This is a great farming country over here, but it's the same old story; lots of room to make up, & a long chapter of neglected opportunities. In Kent farming machinery has not yet been discovered. Man-power seems to be the principal asset, though I must say they have a few of the sort of articles that our grandfathers used to vary the monotony.
