My dear Dodie

Your delightful letter arrived a few days ago and I immediately sent it down to Johnnie and I received[?]. Johnnie left yesterday for Canada (2 months leave) and he will be able to give you heaps of news.

I feel very depressed about poor Jack Kennedy, and it is very hard to realize that he has been killed, he was only over a short time and was getting along so well too.

Everything is going along well with us these days but expect to be in the thick of it very soon again.

Saw Charlie Heisnep[?] a few days ago but didn't have a chance to have a chat as we were on our way to be inspected by Sir Saw. [?] and John Pikes are over, but haven't yet been able to [?] them.

The country around our present billets is looking bountiful just now, and the crops are splendid, old men[?], women & children are doing the harvesting
