the fighting there is very much worse that in Flanders, the conditions that they have to fight under are much worse. The great difficulty they have is in getting water, it all has to be taken to them by ships under a heavy fire. I am told that recruiting in Canada has fallen off since the 2nd cont. went. I often wonder if the men in the colonies can realize what it all means; they are only just beginning to realize it in England.

I am afraid that I cannot give you your request about letting you know what our work is, but I will tell you all about it after the war is over. I don't think that the submarine service has anything to be ashamed
