Oct 6 Sund - Walked through Bourlon wood. Very smelly - Many traces of Geul Byngs abortive alleruft on Cambrai- Bourlon village & CHan better class than usual but quite destroyed.

7. FECM at 2nd DAC . Heavy airburst directly overhead - No protection at all.

8. FECM at 5th C&B - Dined with 29th - They had a horse [illegible] backwards into their dugout during night which [illegible] in progress. Rumours of a genl armistice.

9. Genl advance. Cambrai Taken by Cdns. Eul evening retirement. FECM at ARRAS. Div Hqrs moved to SAILLY (just W of Cambrai)

10. A&Q moved to SAILLY - lived in Chalk Tunnel . I had a good look at Cambrai. Fires lit by enemy still burning - all Ch. Towers standing but are wrecked- (At this time our left flank extended all the way from a little No fo Cambrai to a little N of Arras so there was a long exposure & 20 miles back Ye were nearer enemy guns than we were at Sailly) - It
