Aug 28.. [illegible] - finished 9 cases. Some rain.

28. [?] concluded. Adv Div HQ came backto Warlus - Our operations on 28th on DROCOURT QUEANT line very costly & only partially successful. 22nd Bn lost all officers 23 & 400 O.R.

30. All Hqrs togr again - Fine

31. Had a good walk with Major P Coleman to GROSVILLE - familiar ground.

Sept 1. Sund - H.C. & Ch Parade. Ride with Col Spry

3. Rode to Neuville Vitasse to hold FECEN[?] at 6C&B but Bde moved. Inspected our old lives these - the last trenches I was in. As a result of our bombardment not easy to hall.

4. Divn moved forward . Rear in Sure Quarry SE of CHERISY & W. of Upton Wood - Acted as Camp Commander for [?] Hqrs. Not much sleep - Old German tunnels for billets - Water spring at end of tunnel - Very smelly dirty place.

5. Fine & warm.

8. Adv. Div. moved back to Sun Quarry & rear moved to ARRAS. I took 2 lorries of officers & men to BERLENCOURT near Le CAVROY for important FGCh[?]
