Apl 14. Heavy rain - Bn occupying main line of resistance (Purple line) - new trenches with practically no dug outs. - Redistribution of Cos in trenches in Telegraph still Switch & Supports with scent of reconnoitred 27th Bn (F.h Rb), Newsille St Vaash - quiet in Bn area

15. Fine - cold & windy - C.O. went to 27th Bn Hqrs. Shelling on Tel. Hill Switch - 2 cas. in Q.C. wh. had to move Hqrs.

16. Fine but cloudy. Advance parties to F.L. Relieved 27th Bn - all quiet. Relief complete by 11 pm. Enemy got in our line [illegible] held by Br. Bde on right (BOISLEUX) but were puot out by 18th Bn ("Stout Fellows").

17. Fine rain - Very large ration parties

18. Fine & cold - Much [illegible] collected . [illegible]. Quiet on front line. Some 5q shelling on Bn Hqrs. Night clear & bright moon. (This sector had to be held at all costs & as there were no communication trenches there would be no hope for any one to get back - we were holding the famous horses for af. Neuville Vitasse wh. was very open to attack).
