of our camp & made us move about 500 yds . Better camp. Fine weather but cold wind.

Apl 25. Bright & cold. Heard that Rook Finlayson died of wounds.

Apl 26. Bn went into reserve at Paynesly Tunnel. Self stayed out with Major Reynolds.

Apl 27. Joe & I walked to Chan l'Acq. Primroses in all colours around the Monastery of [illegible] St. Eloq.

Apl 28. Maj. Reynolds, Doc Watson (T.O) Malcour (P.M) & I walked into Arras. Lunched in style at Hotel du Commerce - Arras Cathedral a gaunt white wreck but W. End still standing & the cross on top a landmark for miles.

Apl 30. Sund. Nothing doing .

May 1. Bright & warm. Transport lines closely shelled by large H.V. ghuns shells. With delayed action fuses. No casualties but extraordinary escapes. Merch camp hounded by 2 aeroplanes.

May 2. Lines again shelled - about 10 pm. a [illegible] plane flying at about 50 ft threw bombs [illegible] with [illegible] on camp & neighbourhood. Major Latta came out with the officrs & were
