Frid 15 Sept The great attack, more [caterpillars]. Guns moving up + prisoners coming in. Terrific artillery fire. Great progress on whole line. Sugar refinery taken easily. A little rain. Doing stretcher bearer work + prisoner guard. Sgt Everest killed. Lt Mackinley seriously wounded. Some rain. Twisted my ancle [ankle] coming home. 596 pris + 12 off'rs on this Bn front. Calvary up. Good mail. Saw a gas balloon burnt.

Sat'd 16. Stayed at Bn Reserve till 4 pm when we moved out to Brickfields where we rec'd a royal welcome. Major Ross CO spoke to me very kindly. Advance cont'd along all our line quite successfully. Caterpillars quite successful where they got through. Prisoners coming in steadily. Good news all round + casualties quite light on the whole.
