Went for a walk to Montvilliers with Joe & after dinner to training camp to watch night attack.

Tues Aug 8 Hotter still. Reported at training camp. Ins'd in gas (tear & chlorine). Went through both the former w'out helmets or goggles. Warned to be ready to join 29th Bn tomorrow.

Wed Aug 9 Attended training camp & inst'd in sandbag & revetting. Heat pretty bad. At 9 pm with Bridgman Capt Mackenzie Meredith & sev'l [other] off'rs reporting to Camp 12 for transfer. From there in motor lorry to sta at Havre. Found a splendid canteen run by Russ. workman since the war at wh. one got good tea & food v. cheap. Entrained 11:30 pm but did not move out till at 1:30 am. Four off'rs to carriage 1st class. Fairly comfortable.

Thurs Aug 10 Arr'd Rouen 7 pm. Found ano'r v. good canteen run by Lady Mabelle Egerton. Had bkfast
