Dearest Mother

The post has brought me today a regular little treasure chest of dainties sent by you but packed in the most wonderful manner. However everything was got in I do not understand for I could hardly get anything out. Today has been overcast and windy but as only a drop or two of rain has fallen the air has been filled with the accumulated dust of the past hot weather. Dust here fills the very sky and sweeps across the country from road to road.

I am not a fighting soldier just now but only a military lawyer but when the opportunity came
