Dearest Mother
We are in a lovely country enjoying lovely weather and are far from any danger. Every minute of my life is interesting + therefore enjoyable. I have pleasant companions + no responsibilities.
Of course we do not know from hour to hour when this may end but while it lasts it is very enjoyable.
Joe Bridgman is with me + some others of our old regiment are either with us or within reach. The sea and a glorious sea at that is within easy reach and I bathe in it nearly every day. The flowers + especially the roses are exquisite. While I write I am enjoying a catalpa + magnolia tree in full bloom. French cleanliness + orderliness is found nearly everywhere with much true courtesy. I am picking up French all right + can generally make myself understood.
With dearest love I am always
Your best second son
Arthur
