I have two letters from you to acknowledge: the last one telling me that they want you to stand for Mayor.

I do not gather whether you have consented or not - if you do I wish you all good luck. No doubt one thing which would make you reluctant to accept would be your natural and very proper desire to have a change as soon as I can take up the reins. It is only common sense that you should have some relaxation from the long strain and no doubt your thoughts will turn towards England.
