I wish there was time to write you fully about this interesting place. Our mess building (a private house in the famous [illegible]) shows signs of the first and last occasions on which the British came into contact with the Boche. The G.O.C's present chateau cost 56 casualties to capture on the 11th of this month. The ridge on the sides of which both houses are build was the one so stubbornly defended in 1914. This time the fighting was not severe though if we had not experienced so much perhaps it might have been. In order that this letter may get to you sometime I must let it go now. I am exceedingly busy.

A Merry Christmas to you all

Your loving brother

Arthur D Crease
