They say his foot was blown off & that he died of wounds.

I have just heard also of the death of a friend of the Fowkes, young R.B. Butler formerly of 11th CMR. His platoon commander has just told me the circumstances. Young Butler was a scout & he was out with his officer on the outpost line when he was struck in the back by a small piece of shrapnel. They thought nothing of it but later on when it got stiff & sore Butler put on his equipment & said he would go out & have it dressed. He has died in hospital.
