brother George, and a Toronto boy by the name of Davies who was in Holzminden Prison Camp with Tommy. They got to England on the 14th of Dec. so were in good time for Xmas.

Poor little Tommy is in rather bad shape. He still has these bullets in his body and will require one or two operations. His left arm is only partially efficient and his back is weak, as two shots entered there and one chipped a piece off his spine. In Germany he was operated on twice without anaesthetic, strapped to the table. For five days he was left untouched with internal bleeding from a wound in his stomach. The Hun doctors really gave him up, so Davies tells me, and it was only the lad's spirit and determination which pulled him through.
