In the Field April 14, 1918

Dearest Mother,

At last I am able to sit down and write you again! Oh what a time we have had during this Hun offensive! Nothing but work, work, work till we were all worn out. Often we would leave one aerodrome and finishing our patrol go to another whence the squadron had moved; here we would get petrol, oil and more ammunition and after an hour rest go out again. I never was in such a wornout condition in my life. Really I was so much "all in" that I would get up after eight hours' sleep feeling just as tired as when I went to bed. Poor little Tommy couldn't stand the strain and had to go the hospital
