June 19th. Washing clothes and have a bath part of day read letters and papers from home.

June 20th. Today we move camp to another lake which from its awful approach and treacherous loose rocks on mountain side is called "Devil's Lake" from here we imagine we can ascend the glacier easily in a day; tomorrow we will see.

June 21th. Longest day in year; and longest day's work and hardest on the job. We ascend 2000 ft come across an extinct crater where we see the mountain we want to get up looming up 5000 ft higher. We immediately commence operations and after 5 hours hard climbing get to a place we can't
