XXI.

April 29th. Raining hard all day: go out for a deer bring home two one young buck and a doe: some out washing for gold in creeks. no colours; but black sand is found. everyone has gold fever now:

April 30th. raining buckets full today. So hard that no one goes out of camp. very hard up for reading matters. Some boys reading almanacks and how Mother Seigel's Syrup was discontinued: I heard later a good yarn of the age of a woman gives up all hope of matrimony. So they decided to leave it for the grandmother who was 80 years of age to answer when asked, replied "You will have to ask some one older than me my dear"
