Diary of a Chain Man on a Government Survey on Vancouver Island
Tuesday March 27th
Starting from Victoria, Vancouver's Island with a Surveyor and fifteen Men, for the purpose of completing a Survey commenced two years previous, defining the line between the Dunsmuir [Grant] from the [Government] land: we were landed at Alberni by the C. P. W. Co Steamer Maude on the 29th [illegible].
Monday, March 28th Has passed visiting some (illegible) of fishing stations and in landing supplies for some whaling (or 'sealing') schooners: three or four of these schooners were waiting in the bay for fine weather: proceeding afterwards we landed at the flourishing town of Alberni.
