18 Tuesday [18-348] Mahony. I take 44 [?}] on a 6-mile route march past Hubberston Village -- Pretty well tire the men out. In afternoon walk with Phillips (R.E. Officer) along the cliffs.-- Two girls to dinner at mess again -- et c'est la guerre! James. The Cub Lieut. in for a talk -- provincial Welsh dialect he talks very hard to follow.

19 Wednesday [19-347] In Orderly Room with Mahony in morning + with lass Taking 6" - striker to pieces in the afternoon -- Stormy squally day, blowing a gale, with lightning at night. Things very slack around this fort- Maj Gordon absent at CMartial of Maj. of Pembrokes charged with abusing a batman while drunk. -- Beautiful army this of ours!
