When it was formed "A" & "B" Coy 88th was gathered together as No.16 [Platoon?] and it is. I should say, quite easily the jolliest and happiest platoon in the battalion as there seems to be a general friendliness among us all which appears to be quite lacking in most of the others.

I was made a lance-jack in charge of a section when the [Ballton?] was formed and since have been promoted to Acting Corporal and quite recently that rank has been confirmed and I was supervised to find how quickly everyone seemed to get [wooed?] to the idea of my being an N.C.O and I ve never had the slightest, [vaguest?] approach of unpleasantness [smer?]. I sat my stripe and we are all very contented and jealous of outside interference.

Charlie Hemeyer and I still sleep side by side, which I tell him, is very nice for me. I like him immensely  though I have been so much out with friends lately  we seem to have missed each other outside barrack but I guess as soon as we leave here we will be a good deal more of each other. He is solid and reliable and I'm sorry they haven't given him a stripe but there is only me lance jack in the platoon after nearly eight weeks. Although there are two sergeants and three full corporals all the stripes except my own were given to "A" Company men, possibly because out platoon commander Pitts. was "A" Coy.

I still hold the attitude of not discussing my supervis, but sometimes I think a whole lot!
