April 13th Motored to DUISANS. I took my C.S.M. Thornburrow with me for a day's change. Had lunch with Mr Peterson. After lunch we walked into ARRAS & on our way we saw scores & scores of dead houses, etc. I do not believe there is a single house but what has had a portion of shell or shrapnel. The City is blown to bits. At one time a magnificent place, now ruins & a disgrace to ? Drew 1650 francs for Coy pay from Field Cashier. Got a lift back as far as DUISANS. i had tea with Peterson. Then we came back by instalments walking, riding, walking, riding, etc. Very tired. Had a letter from Mr. Lory.
