paid my men. Received my Xmas pudding from mother & two nice cubes of chocolate from Percy. Snowy weather.

Jan 12th Went by train to Avesnes by train then Capt Thomas lent me his car to go to Duisans to pay my other half Coy - saw Lieu Peterson there then we went on the main Arras road which is under observation by the Bosh to Dead Man's corner near Arras had a good view of Hotel De Ville in Arras which is half blown away also we had a good of the German & English trenches & in the distance we saw Vimy Ridge & the old blown up church of Mount St Eloi also saw an observation balloon go up at Duisans, came back to Avesnes & saw Capt Swan & then walked from there to Le [illegible] & picked up a motor lorry. In evening Lieut Webster of the Army Ordinance books came & took dinner with us.
