Fort (illegible) where I unfortunately I spent the whole of the winter the year before.

Sept 21st 1916 Promoted to Captain & put in command of B. Company which I formed at (illegible) & whilst there I made friends with our Adjutant Captain Couthbridge-Williams & spent many an enjoyable afternoon with Capt & Mrs. Williams to tea at their billet.

In France

Oct 3 1916 My Company was up to strength altogether 252 men & 2 N.C.Os. & my official 2nd Lieut Peterson & we paraded our men (the whole battalion) at 6:30 P.M. & arrived at Friary Station Plymouth 9:15 P.M. & at 10:40 P.M. left for Southampton.

Oct 4th Tea & bun at 1:15 A.M. at Exeter Station provided by the Mayoress. 6:30 A.M. arrived at Southampton Dock 6:30 P.M. left Southampton for France
