reply, including us in the proceedings, which is rude, for all we ask is to be left alone for a while. My Platoon went in fifty strong, and we now muster (censored) , and everyone else is the same. Nobody knows what happened to Major Byng-Hall, and Mr. Macdowall, who were very popular and efficient officers. Only one Officer of the old 88th is unwounded. The worst part of it is that I do not know what has happened to anybody. I just put them as missing. Reinforcements have come out from the 2nd Contingent, and three of them were killed here yesterday, as an initiation. The beauty of the whole thing was, that at no time did we know what was happening elsewhere, and even now we have no idea how things are progressing. We hear lots of rumours, such as Lille captured, Constantinople fallen, etc., but believe none of it. Well, out of pity for the poor Censor, I must close. My idea of Heaven now is, the little old Cowichan river, whether the fish are biting, or not, or my own particular armchair, and a magazine. Love to all, and do not get down hearted.
