Somewhere in France

17 Aug 1917.

Friend Fred

Just a few lines to let you know I am still in the land of the almighty and I can tell you it is now Fritzs fault that I am alive things are getting rough out here. I guess they mean to finish him this year it is a large size Town we are Just about to occupy. I am sorry to tell you that Chester Boyd got it. Poor fellow he died of wounds. I guess if they keep agoing there wont be any of the Barkerville Stiffs left at all. Harry Brierley is with us again looking as well as ever. Poor Chester
