just a few lines to let you know I am still in the land of the living but I am sorry to let you know that Jack Ellis lost his life for his country on the 1st of March on a Raid we took part in, so let all his Friends in Barkerville know about it all the Rest of the Boys from there are all OK. I wish I was back in Barkerville again as I am longing to be home you will see in the Canadian papers the casualtie list as it is
