next winter.  Everyone is gradually waking up to the fact that there is a war on and every family has got a bit of a garden and quite a few have chickens and pigs.  There are lots of people laughing at the gardeners, calling them childish and silly, but after they see the result, next year England will be one mighty garden if the war is still on.  Some of the stuff raised will be pretty expensive, and the yield not as many fold as could be hoped or expected, but the time may come when that stuff will be cheap at any price.  The tilling of the soil interested me very much and I worked harder than I ever did in my life before. The Officer in charge didnt like to let me go and I left regretfully myself but the planting is all over, and I would like to build a few railroads over in France before I return to Cariboo. Purfleet is a verry quiet place, restfull often listening to the bagpipes all day over in Seaford.  The first Reserve was not quite as bad as the 24th but then we had young men in  our hut practicing an a German Acccordion whenever that was tolerated.  All this music put me in mind of Cap Juddah and his french Horne, that  Olaf used to ram full of paper and rags, when it got to bad.
