4/If the big 4 day very heavy rain had not come on the 1st of August Just as we had started our big offensive on July 31st I belive it would have been the most succesfull & bigest offensive we ever had. It would, I & most all the men in the big push think have about shaken Fritz our of Flanders from Epres to the Holland Boundary. Every thing was there in great quanties & well prepared & laid out in order of being wanted next supplies of all sorts & shells galore of all sizes a wonderfull lot of them of large size. Then the rain & lord how it did rain for 5 nights 14 days & even then it did not stop altogether. No one could describe the condition the shell ploughed zone got into it was simply impossible to move up guns & shells over it & without them it is not possible to go ahead Our staff did well & our men every thing they were expected to do the
