was certain at the time it was a 8ell not a 6ell or 10ell hamer That blow hurt me inside some how I bled a lot for the first few hours & some for several days through the blader. It was supposed that the piece of shell had gone into the kidney but two xray photos did not show any there. I think my self that the heavy blow burst my kidney a bit. I was in great pain for about 9 days as my bowels also were kinked up & the back of my hip bones being so sore & back bone too tender to lay on & could not lay on my stomach as it was swolen to a great size, However I was never opperated on though put on a table twice &[halfeitheree} one of those times. I finialy got fit to send down the line to Rowen & was kept there a few more days to see how I shaped then I was put on the boat at Rowen & sent to Manchester via Southhampton. Our hospital ship was painted grey & armed also a distroyer escort & we waited for darkness to cross. While I was in the first Casualty Clearing Station Fritz droped bombs on it
