| + | I have not had a hostile shell near me but once for a long time. One (a stray apparently) burst about 150 yrds away a week ago as we were unloading a portable hut off a narrow gauge R.R. I am writing this in a hut 16 x 24 with no wall & 24 men & all our gear in it & all talking of the big war news we have got to day out of a paper & the rumors that we hope are true of big things done on our left. What had happened is on our right we are at an important place about the middle of the British line. Our paper 2 days old tells us of the advance on a 82 mile front of the British & French armies. I should like to be taking a more active part in it. I have tried to get transferred twice but so far have not got permision too bad lots of men in the front line would like to be out back & I & some others who want more active service cant get up | ||
