they (the men of Pioneer Batt) say they are to be in Eng Nov 3rd & are to be used as a construction gang to dig trenches & build bridges & make the timbers etc for those bridges. I know a number, & of those I know the majority are pretty old booze fighters but on the whole they are a big husky looking lot & I dont doubt will be very usefull. Prince Rupert gave them a reception (missed us) but Hazelton & Rupert are of course closley connected in many ways.
