8. How is Barkerville anyhow Fred? Have only had one batch of mail from there since we left, that time Mrs. Armstrong & yourself wrote. You see we left Alberta before the answers to our letters got there & the farmer we lived with hasn't forwarded them on to us. He knows our address tho' so hope he will get busy soon.

Rain. Say Barkerville about May June & July is dry compared to here. There was something over 200 boys in the draft that left here last night, they called themselves The 72nd Seaforth Highlanders & the Irish but they ought to be called the Consumption Crew. Talk about cough. If a fellow wakes up in the night its like a trip thru the Stoney Creek Rancherio to hear the barking. I'm as bad as anybody. When I joined I took a bath & a prison hair cut & haven't got over it yet.
