From time to time I come across many Vancouverites. I dined the other night with Mrs. Sperling and Bab.  This is in the Engineers where his knowledge of Electricity is useful.  Dolly is just the same but Bab seems rather depressed: I fear the incontinence of Bert Leslie has displeased him somewhat.  Last time I saw him at Bramsholt he was having a great time with quite an attractive little war widow with 3000 pounds a year and a car or two.  She appeared to be crazy about him so I advised him to make sure of the financial standing and go to it!  I saw Bimbo just before he went overseas again with a Railway Battalion.  There are a lot of Vancouverites with the Railway troops, probably because the work appears safer than being in the infantry!  Such people as Puffy Campbell, Clarence Marpole, Allan Macintosh and many others.  It amused me intensely to see all these people taking anything up to two years to make up their minds to come over, falling into all these soft jobs and getting their promotion while we silly mutts that dashed off as soon as the
