Capered[?]. I've been 2 years trying to get at the Front & I'm not going to be to be a Barrack Room soldier any longer. What the Hell do they suppose I joined for. Damn the Canadian & their notler[?] way of doing things.

The only other worry I've got is that break- fast is over at 8:30 am & my damn bat[?] woke me up at 8 am. Why the devil they can't make breakfast near to 9:30 pances my comprehension - I've got nothing to do except eat sleep & dring & be merry, & they go & knock off one hour of my sleep. It really is too damn bad - don't you think so?

Talk about [?] women & saw as the [?] of life - why I don't get any.

Wine is too blithing[?] expenseive & am [?] whicky is all I can [?] to.

I'm not allowed to swig, the women are much too dangerous. Every one is worried against them, for the hospitals are full through it. So you can quite understand how really cheery it is in their cursed hole.

Things are very different war from when I first met you - Jany 1912 - for I had plenty of women then & you had lots of men to play off one against the other - seems to me you played them a bit too well - There'll be lots of them again after the war so cheer up old file &
