I don't think that you understand how very few in a battleship, cruiser etc. see anything at all. In the army of course any individual can run away, but in the navy he has no place to run to unless he jumps overboard.

I can't help feeling that you rather despise me and naturally, that does not make me feel joyful.

It is good news to hear that you can get away for your beloved fishing, happy hunting! I think that it will do you a lot of good. The women have the hardest time of anyone, and I think that they are magnificent.

You are about the only person I get letters from except my mother and youngest sister, so you can imagine I look forward to getting yours.

I am blossoming out into an awful looking beard up here, as we can only get enough fresh water for drinking and wash ourselves in salt water, we all look an awful lot at present.
